The Moduli Space of Curves

چکیده

In this section, we will give a sketch of the construction of the moduli space Mg of curves of genus g and the closely related moduli space Mg,n of n-pointed curves of genus g using two different approaches. Throughout this section we always assume that 2g − 2 + n > 0. In the first approach, we will embed curves in a projective space P using a sufficiently high power n of their dualizing sheaf. Then a locus in the Hilbert scheme parameterizes n-canonically embedded curves of genus g. The automorphism group PGL(N + 1) acts on the Hilbert scheme. Using Mumford’s Geometric Invariant Theory, one can take the quotient of the appropriate locus in the Hilbert scheme by the action of PGL(N + 1) to construct Mg. In the second approach, one first constructs the moduli space of curves as a Deligne-Mumford stack. One then exhibits an ample line bundle on the coarse moduli scheme of this stack.

Universal moduli spaces of vector bundles and the log-minimal model program on the moduli of curves

Recent work on the log-minimal model program for the moduli space of curves, as well as past results of Caporaso, Pandharipande, and Simpson motivate an investigation of compactifications of the universal moduli space of slope semi-stable vector bundles over moduli spaces of curves arising in the Hassett–Keel program. Our main result is the construction of a universal moduli space of slope semi...

Enriched Spin Curves on Stable Curves with Two Components

In [M], Mainò constructed a moduli space for enriched stable curves, by blowing-up the moduli space of Deligne-Mumford stable curves. We introduce enriched spin curves, showing that a parameter space for these objects is obtained by blowing-up the moduli space of spin curves.

Covers of the Projective Line and the Moduli Space of Quadratic Differentials

Consider the Hurwitz space parameterizing covers of P branched at four points. We study its intersection with divisor classes on the moduli space of curves. As applications, we calculate the slope of Teichmüller curves parameterizing square-tiled cyclic covers. In addition, we come up with a relation among the slope of Teichmüller curves, the sum of Lyapunov exponents and the Siegel-Veech const...

Cohomology of Moduli Spaces of Curves of Genus Three via Point Counts

In this article we consider the moduli space of smooth n-pointed nonhyperelliptic curves of genus three. In the pursuit of cohomological information about this space, we make Sn-equivariant counts of its numbers of points defined over finite fields for n up to seven. Together with results on the moduli spaces of smooth pointed curves of genus zero, one and two, and the moduli space of smooth hy...

Square-tiled Surfaces and Rigid Curves on Moduli Spaces

We study the algebro-geometric aspects of Teichmüller curves parameterizing square-tiled surfaces with two applications. (a) There exist infinitely many rigid curves on the moduli space of hyperelliptic curves. They span the same extremal ray of the cone of moving curves. Their union is a Zariski dense subset. Hence they yield infinitely many rigid curves with the same properties on the moduli ...

The Moduli Space of Curves and Its Tautological Ring

The moduli space of curves has proven itself a central object in geometry. The past decade has seen substantial progress in understanding the moduli space of curves, involving ideas, for example, from geometry (algebraic, symplectic, and differential), physics, topology, and combinatorics. Many of the new ideas are related to the tautological ring of the moduli space, a subring of the cohomolog...
